Small Bathroom Remodel Ideas with a Shower: Make Your Tiny Space Feel Huge

Dealing with a cramped bathroom can drive anyone crazy. But here’s the good news. You can absolutely fit a stunning, fully functional shower into a tiny footprint without feeling claustrophobic. The secret lies in using seamless glass enclosures, floating vanities, and continuous floor tiles to trick the eye. 

I've tackled countless tiny bathroom makeovers. Over the years, I've learned that you don't need a massive floor plan to create a spa-like retreat. Let's look at some of my favorite ways to transform your tight quarters into a gorgeous oasis.

Go for Seamless Glass Shower Doors

Ditch the bulky shower curtains immediately. Curtains chop the room in half, making a tight space feel even smaller. Instead, I always recommend installing seamless glass shower doors. 

Frameless glass lets light pass through without visual interruption. This simple switch instantly doubles the visual footprint of your room. Plus, it shows off your beautiful modern shower tile.

Mount a Floating Vanity

When floor space is at a premium, you need to use every trick in the book. A wall-mounted floating vanity is one of my absolute favorite hacks. It opens up the floor area underneath the sink. 

This creates an illusion of more square footage. You can even tuck woven baskets underneath for extra toilet paper storage. It's practical and incredibly chic.

Use Continuous Tile

Want to know a designer secret? Run the exact same tile from your bathroom floor straight into the shower. Breaking up the floor pattern visually stops the eye and fragments the room. 

By keeping the tile continuous, the floor extends infinitely. If you take that same tile up the shower wall to the ceiling, the effect is even stronger. Your bathroom will feel twice its actual size.

Build Recessed Shower Niches

Bulky wire shower caddies hanging from your showerhead are a major eyesore. They take up precious elbow room in a small shower. The fix is surprisingly simple: built-in wall niches. 

Ask your contractor to carve out a recess between the wall studs. You'll get plenty of room for your shampoo bottles without sacrificing an inch of standing space. Frame it with a contrasting tile for a nice pop of style.

Embrace Curbless Walk-in Showers

A standard shower tray with a raised curb creates a harsh visual boundary. I prefer curbless walk-in showers for tight layouts. They offer a sleek, continuous transition from the main floor right into the wet zone. 

This modern design makes the room look incredibly custom. It's also fantastic for accessibility as you grow older.

Utilize Corner Space

Sometimes a standard rectangular shower just won't fit your layout. That’s when you need to look at the corners. A neo-angle or curved corner shower tucks perfectly into unused spaces. 

You'll be shocked at how much room this frees up for your toilet and sink. Pair it with curved glass sliding doors. This prevents the doors from swinging out and hitting your vanity.

Light It Up Strategically

A dark room always feels claustrophobic. If you can't add a skylight or window, you need to get creative with your fixtures. I love adding waterproof LED strip lighting inside the shower niche. 

Combine this with bright vanity sconces and recessed ceiling lights. Bouncing warm light off mirrored surfaces and light-colored tiles will make the space feel airy and inviting.
